Ryle Sports Festival To Feature Nationally-Ranked Teams

The Sporting News Ranks One Matchup As Second Biggest Game Of The Year In The Entire Country

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The high school football season kicks off with a bang on Saturday, August 30, with the return of the third annual Ryle Sports Festival sponsored by The Bank of Kentucky and NovaCare Rehabilitation. The tripleheader football event, put together by Hacks Sports and Ryle High School, will feature six teams from three states and will include games of national importance.

The schedule gets underway at noon with host Ryle taking on Cincinnati Princeton, followed by Cincinnati Elder vs. Indianapolis Warren Central at 4 p.m. and Cincinnati St. Xavier vs. Louisville Trinity at 7:30 p.m.

The Sports Festival is shaping up as a national showcase as several of the participating teams come into the games nationally ranked by The Sporting News as part of their "Fab 50" preseason poll. Elder, the Ohio Division I defending champion, returns 11 starters and is ranked sixth in the country. The Panthers take on a Warren Central squad that returns 16 starters from its 4A state quarterfinalist team and comes in ranked No. 10. The Sporting News has rated this top 10 matchup as the second biggest game of the year in the entire country.

Louisville Trinity, the Kentucky Class AAAA defending champion, is ranked No. 8 by The Sporting News while St. Xavier is ranked No. 30. Trinity, with a 24-game winning streak in tow, returns just three offensive starters but one of them is senior Brian Brohm, the top-ranked quarterback in the country according to many media outlets including ESPN.com. The Shamrocks return eight starters on defense. St. Xavier returns several players from last season's squad that qualified for the Division I playoffs before losing a close 20-14 contest to Elder in the opening round.

Ryle qualified for the playoffs in Class AAAA before falling to Trinity in the first round while Princeton is coming off a 2002 campaign that saw them narrowly miss the Division I playoffs with a loss on the final week of the regular season.
